Susan Brown was born in Yorkshire and initially gained a BA Hons. in 3D design from Leeds in 1979.
Since then she has progressed her two main areas of interest – interior design and contemporary painting, involving numerous commissions and several projects both as designer and contemporary artist.

Susan’s paintings appear in many notable private and public contemporary art collections, including: Halifax Plc, Allied Domecq, Sir George Martin Trust and the Universities of Sheffield and York.
She has shown in many leading British galleries and has participated in numerous group exhibitions including the Royal Academy, the Royal Scottish Academy, the Royal Watercolour Society and the New English Art Club. In 1994 she was artist in residence at the York Early Music Festival, organised by Kentmere House Gallery.
She has also been the recipient of many art prizes and awards, including: The Laing Art Competition; Hunting Art Prize (regional winner); Penrose Purchase Prize 2005, and the Singer & Friedlander Sunday Times Watercolour Competition 2001, where she was a finalist.
