Alfred trained initially at Eastbourne School of Art, and later specialised in theatre design at the Central School in London. He feels he gained enormously from his time as a scenic artist working in Birmingham Repertory Theatre, enjoying the challenge and excitement of working on a large scale.
Read full bioOn three occasions he has been invited by Kentmere House Gallery to be artist-in- residence at the York Early Music Festival, the latest in 2014. Alfred was overjoyed to be invited, as he is a devotee of early-music & sings in a choir in London, and so was delighted to be able to attend each of the concerts & to work back-stage.
Commissions from owners of private houses in Yorkshire followed, & Alfred also painted several views of The King’s Manor, one of the buildings of the University of York. One of these was purchased by University and hangs in the Refectory at The King’s Manor.
