Portraits from 'Gentleman Jack'

May 2022

7 May – 3 July 2022

During lockdown West Yorkshire artist David Greenwood became fascinated by the story of ‘Gentleman Jack’ & was inspired to produce a series of portraits of the actresses playing Anne Lister & Ann Walker – Suranne Jones and Sophie Rundle.

As a native of Bradford & living close to Ann Walker’s family home of Shibden Hall near Halifax, David was able to visit frequently to soak up the atmosphere of the place & he has produced some stunning work, which will be on show at Kentmere House Gallery from 7 May.

David has been showing with the gallery since its opening in 1991 and is an accomplished portrait painter whose work was included in the publication ‘Facing North’, a collection of self-portraits by northern artists published in 1998.

He has shown in prestigious galleries across the county including the nave of Bradford Cathedral, where he was artist in residence, and Newby Hall as part of their Summer Arts Festival.
